A SPECIAL EVENT STAGED READING PERFORMANCE IN SUPPORT OF THE SHARON PLAYHOUSE

PERFORMED ON THE OLSEN MAINSTAGE

Following his previous Sharon Playhouse appearances in The Tale of the Allergist’s Wife and  Die, Mommie, Die!, the legendary Charles Busch returns for another one-night-only staged reading!

The Divine Sister is a wildly witty homage to every Hollywood film about nuns — from “The Song of Bernadette” and “The Bells of St. Mary’s” to “The Singing Nun” and “The Sound of Music” — this show promises outrageous laughs and pure theatrical bliss!

The story follows St. Veronica’s indomitable Mother Superior, played by the incomparable Busch (Die Mommie Die, Psycho Beach Party, Vampire Lesbians of Sodom), leads us on a madcap trip through Tinseltown’s most gloriously over-the-top religiosity. It’s miraculous. It’s zany. It’s one night only!

Be among the first to experience Pete Hathaway’s beautifully renovated property on Millerton Road in Sharon, as he opens his home for an elegant and lively evening featuring a full open bar, abundant food—including a generous finger-food spread and passed hors d’oeuvres—provided by Gina Travelli’s Mana Catering—and live piano music throughout by Hank Lane.

Festive and intimate, this special gathering offers a rare chance to mingle with the artists behind The Divine Sister—and, thanks to Pete’s extraordinary generosity in underwriting the entire evening, 100% of ticket proceeds directly benefit the Sharon Playhouse.

  • The Divine Sister made its New York debut with a developmental run at Theater for the New City in early 2010 before moving to Off-Broadway at the Soho Playhouse, where it opened September 22, 2010, produced by Daryl Roth and Bob Boyett.

Written by Charles Busch and directed by Carl Andress, the show starred Busch as the indomitable Mother Superior alongside a lively ensemble, including Julie Halston, Alison Fraser, Jennifer Van Dyck, Jonathan Walker, and Amy Rutberg.

Cue the Hallelujah chorus!… a gleefully twisted tale… Mr. Busch’s freshest, funniest work in years.” — Ben Brantley, The New York Times
