SPRING CLASSES

  • The Sharon Playhouse welcomes everyone, young and old, to explore the magic of the performing arts through classes and intensives offered throughout the school year.

    Timeline:

    • Fall Semester (7 weeks)

      • The Fall semester of classes runs from the beginning of October through mid-November. Registration for the Fall semester happens in September.

    • Winter Workshops

      • In January and February we offer a handful of Winter Workshops, including masterclasses, camps, and special events. Registration for Winter Workshops happens in December.

    • Spring Semester (7 weeks)

      • The Spring semester of classes runs from mid-March through the beginning of May. Registration for the Spring semester happens in February.

    Movement for Munchkins, Music for Munchkins, Creative Theatrics, Creative Movement, Acting for Kids, Ballet Basics, Let’s Dance, Let’s Sing, Theater Jazz, Youth Tap, Clowning, Costume Design, Stage Combat, Fun with Theater Masks, Shakespeare

    Examples of Classes for Teens and Adults:
    Beginner Tap, Intermediate Tap, Theater Jazz, Mindful Movement, Performing the Monologue, Scene Study, Shakespeare, Acting the Song, Sing How You Speak, The Actor’s Gym, Acting for Television and Film, Improv, How to Audition for a Play, How to Audition for a Musical, Playwriting, Adult Comedy Night, Play Soiree

    1-Day Performing Arts Camps
    Masterclass in Theater Confidence with Broadway actor and playwright Douglas Lyons
    Masterclass in Sound Design with Tony-nominated Sound Designer Dan Moses Schreier

HOW TO REGISTER:

  • Open the class below you’d like to attend and “click here to register” to submit your payment.

  • Once payment is received a confirmation email will be sent which includes a registration form to collect your information.

  • Registration is NOT complete until the Playhouse receives both your payment and completed registration form.

CLASS POLICY: All class fees are final and non-refundable once payment has been made.

Please follow the age requirements when enrolling - students must be within the indicated age bracket by the date of the first class.

  • Saturdays: March 29, April 5, 12, 19, 26, and May 3, 10;  10:00-10:45 AM

    Instructor: Tricia DeSario

    Movement for Munchkins is designed to align with the developmental milestones of children ages 3-5 years. Led by Tricia DeSario, an instructor with a background in early childhood development and dance, our 7-week program focuses on nurturing both language development and motor skills through fun songs and movement! Egg shakers, scarves, parachute play and more will be used to facilitate creative movement and socialization among our Munchkins as we gather for circle time songs, interactive story-telling, and explore different movement concepts together. Grownups are warmly encouraged to join their Munchkin in a shared experience of creating community while supporting your preschoolers' development with dance moves they’ll come to know and love! Students are encouraged to also sign up for Music for Munchkins, and will be supervised by teaching artists during the transition from 10:45-11:00 AM.

  • Saturdays: March 29, April 5, 12, 19, 26, and May 3, 10; 11:00-11:45 AM

    Instructor: Beckie Scattergood

    Introduce your 3, 4, and 5-year-olds to the power and joy of music-making. Music for Munchkins will build on your child's natural enthusiasm for music and will provide a strong foundation for future instruction in singing, dance, and/or instrument study. This class will be a joyful opportunity for youngsters to come together and make music, all while learning the basics of rhythm and sound. Students are encouraged to also sign up for Movement for Munchkins, and will be supervised by teaching artists during the transition from 10:45-11:00 AM.

    Get ready for a thrilling musical adventure where your little ones can sing, dance, and shine! In this 7-week journey, kids will dive into the world of musical theater, learning catchy songs and fun dance moves from their favorite shows. Co-taught by a fabulous director/choreographer and music director, each session is packed with excitement and creativity, designed to spark a love for performing. The grand finale? A fun sharing in The Bok at The Sharon Playhouse, where our young stars will show off their new skills in a special showcase for family and friends. It’s the perfect way to start telling stories through song and dance in a super fun, supportive environment! If you’ve taken this class before - fear not! This will be a completely new script with new songs, new scenes, and new dances!

    Instructors: Erin Krom and Beckie Scattergood

    Step into the spotlight with this exciting 7-week workshop designed for young performers aged 9-14! In this high-energy program, students will dive into the world of musical theater, honing their skills in acting, singing, and dancing. Each session is packed with creative activities that build confidence, teamwork, and stage presence, all while having a blast! Guided by Sharon Playhouse teaching artists Erin Krom and Beckie Scattergood, students will work on dynamic scenes, catchy songs, and lively dance numbers from popular musicals. The grand finale is a thrilling showcase in front of an audience, where students will shine as they share their hard work and talent with family and friends. Whether your child is a seasoned performer or new to the stage, this class is the perfect place to develop their passion for theater in a fun, supportive environment! If you’ve taken this class before - fear not! This will be a completely new script with new songs, new scenes, and new dances!

This 1-day camp is the ultimate way to kick off your spring break with non-stop fun, as you dive into theater games, vocal training, electrifying choreography, and acting exercises—all led by professional teaching artists.     Instructor: Tricia DeSario

    This beginner tap class is designed for joyful movers who are curious to explore the rhythm and magic of tap dancing. Warm-up exercises will get you energized and ready to tap, while fun routines will enhance your coordination, balance, and rhythm. No prior experience needed, just a spark of enthusiasm and a smile. This is more than just a class, it's a community! Join us for an hour of laughter, learning, and tapping your night away. All levels of experience are welcome!

  • Tuesdays: March 25, April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, and May 6; 6:30-8:30 PM

    Instructor: Ricky Oliver

    Sharpen your acting instrument and ignite your passion for storytelling in our immersive Scene Study class! This course, taught by one of Sharon Playhouse’s fabulous new Teaching Artists, Ricky Oliver, offers a unique opportunity to dissect, explore, and breathe life into powerful scenes from a diverse range of plays. You will be assigned a scene that aligns with your interests and career goals, be it classical drama, contemporary comedies, or thought-provoking new plays. Throughout the seven-week process, you will work alongside dedicated scene partners and a supportive instructor, fostering trust and vulnerability for truthful performances. The semester will culminate with a final presentation in which you will share your honed skills and newfound understanding of character with your peers and invited guests.

  • Friday, April 11; 6:30 PM

    Hosts:  Michael Kevin Baldwin and Andrus Nichols

    Join local theater makers, Michael Kevin Baldwin and Andrus Nichols, for an evening of reader’s theater! . Participants will partake in a table read of Michael Frayn’s theatrical farce Noises Off. Roles will be assigned and shared on the evening of the reading with the goal of breathing life into this hilarious romp. Play Soiree promises to be an incredibly fun experience -  rich with community bonding, social engagement, and artistic expression. The bar will be open, and one free drink is included! 

    Participation Fee: $20 (includes one drink)

  • Friday, May 2 - 6:30-8:30 PM

    Instructor: Michael Kevin Baldwin

    Join Education and Associate Artistic Director Michael Kevin Baldwin for an entertaining evening exploring the art of Improv. Get together with other local adults to play theater games and create scenes from scratch. Participants will learn how to confidently inhabit a sense of play while having fun in a social environment. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages included! New students and returning students are encouraged to sign up!
