Winter workshops

The Sharon Playhouse welcomes everyone, young and old, to explore the magic of the performing arts through classes and intensives offered throughout the school year.
Timeline:
Fall Semester (7 weeks)
The Fall semester of classes runs from the beginning of October through mid-November. Registration for the Fall semester happens in September.
Winter Workshops
In January and February we offer a handful of Winter Workshops, including masterclasses, camps, and special events. Registration for Winter Workshops happens in December.
Spring Semester (7 weeks)
The Spring semester of classes runs from mid-March through the beginning of May. Registration for the Spring semester happens in February.

HOW TO REGISTER:
Open the class below you’d like to attend and “click here to register” to submit your payment.
Once payment is received a confirmation email will be sent which includes a registration form to collect your information.
Registration is NOT complete until the Playhouse receives both your payment and completed registration form.
CLASS POLICY: All class fees are final and non-refundable once payment has been made.
Please follow the age requirements when enrolling - students must be within the indicated age bracket by the date of the first class.

Sharon Playhouse 1-Day Camp: Youth (ages 8-13)
Monday, January 20 - 9:30 AM -3:30 PM
Instructors: Sarah Cuoco and Beckie Wallace
Spend Martin Luther King Jr. Day at The Sharon Playhouse! This specialized 1-day camp is packed with theater games, vocal training, heart-pumping choreography, and dynamic acting exercises—all led by Sharon Playhouse educators Sarah Cuoco and Beckie Wallace. The day will culminate in a special sharing where students can showcase their newfound skills for family and friends. Don’t miss this chance to dive into the performing arts and make the most of your day off with us!

Description: Join Michael Kevin Baldwin, Education and Associate Artistic Director, for an engaging masterclass designed to help young performers ages 8-14 take their auditions to the next level. Learn the secrets to auditioning with confidence, commanding the room, and making a lasting impression. Through fun and interactive exercises in cold reading and public speaking, you'll build skills that boost your presence and help you shine under pressure. Don't miss this opportunity to discover your inner star!

Improv with Yale University’s Purple Crayon!: Youth (ages 8-11)
Saturday, February 1 - 2:30-4:00 PM
Instructor: The members of Yale University’s Purple Crayon, America’s oldest collegiate longform Improv group.
Description: Get ready to laugh, play, and create with the Purple Crayon, Yale University's acclaimed improv group! In this 90-minute workshop, kids ages 8-11 will work with Yale students and learn how to think on their feet, build stories together, and let their imaginations run wild through fun games and exercises. No experience needed—just bring your energy and get ready for a great time!

Instructor: The members of Yale University’s Purple Crayon, America’s oldest collegiate longform Improv group.
Description: Step into the spotlight and unleash your creativity with Purple Crayon, Yale University's acclaimed improv group! In this 90-minute workshop, teens ages 12-17 will learn the secrets of quick thinking, teamwork, and storytelling through fun, high-energy games and scenes. Perfect for performers of all levels—get ready to laugh, connect, and have fun with these hilarious college undergrads!

Audition Masterclass with Ricky Oliver: Teen/Adult (15 & up)
Friday, January 24: 6:30-8:30 PM
Instructor: Ricky Oliver

Description: Get ready to learn from the best in the biz: Ricky Oliver, the acclaimed teacher of Sharon Playhouse's popular Studying the Scene class, will guide you through the art of crafting standout audition pieces, whether you're working on a monologue or a musical theater song. Bring a memorized monologue (no longer than two minutes) or 16-32 bars of a musical theater song with accompanying sheet music. This workshop is the perfect opportunity to hone your audition skills and prepare for the Sharon Playhouse’s upcoming 2025 season, which will include two musicals and two plays!

In this 90-minute workshop for adults 18 and up, you'll explore the fundamentals of improv through engaging games and exercises designed to spark creativity, build confidence, and inspire laughter. Whether you're a seasoned performer or trying something new, this workshop is your chance to let loose and have fun!

Play Soiree: Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: (Ages 15 & up)
Friday, February 7; 6:30 PM
Hosts: Michael Kevin Baldwin, Tracy Liz Miller, Kent Burnham
Join Education and Associate Artistic Director Michael Kevin Baldwin along with Kent Burnham and Tracy Liz Miller, Co-Producing Artistic Directors of Connecticut Theatre Exchange, for an evening of reader’s theater! Participants will partake in a table read of Tennessee Williams’ explosive drama Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. Roles will be assigned and shared on the evening of the reading with the goal of breathing life into this timeless classic. Play Soiree promises to be an incredibly fun experience - rich with community bonding, social engagement, and artistic expression. The bar will be open, and one free drink is included!
