Get Set for an Evening of Outrageous and Campy Fun! Sharon Playhouse favorite Charles Busch returns for another unforgettable night in his riotous comedy, Die Mommie Die!, a wild ride through the glamorous—and gritty—Hollywood of the late 1960s. This uproarious comedy noir, penned and performed by the legendary Busch, will have you laughing out loud and gasping at every delicious twist.

Die Mommie Die! is a comic melodrama inspired by 1960s “Grande Dame Guignol” films. Set in Hollywood and loosely based on Greek tragedy (specifically The Oresteia and the story of Clytemnestra), the plot follows the hilariously dysfunctional life of Angela Arden, a former Hollywood diva trapped in a loveless marriage to a controlling, wealthy film mogul. When Angela’s plans to escape take a deadly turn, her equally outrageous children get swept up in a wild ride of secrets, scandal, and shocking twists. A rollercoaster of laughs, intrigue, and fabulous drama awaits!

  • RUN TIME: 2 hours including one 15-minute intermission.

AGE RECOMMENDATION: Recommended for ages 15 and up. A wild, over-the-top ride full of dark humor, juicy drama, and a little bit of scandal!

    • From Stage to Screen: The play was first presented in 1999 in Los Angeles before being adapted into a film by Mark Rucker and released by Sundance Films in 2003. The movie retained the play's humor and larger-than-life characters with a cast that included Jason Priestly, Frances Conroy, and Natasha Lyonne.

    • Star Power: Charles Busch received the Special Jury Prize for Performance for his starring role at the Sundance Film Festival. Don't miss him live as he delivers an unforgettable performance as Angela Arden that blends his trademark wit, flamboyant style, and sharp comedic timing.

    • From Stage to Screen and Back: A new Off-Broadway production directed by Carl Andress was presented in 2007 and received positive reviews, with The New York Times highlighting Busch's "hair-trigger comic timing and rubbery mugging," comparing his style to that of vintage Lucille Ball!
